River Legacy Cardboard Boat Regatta 2010

Can cardboard boats sail?  As a matter of fact, they can…and some even sailed their way to prizes at the 21st annual Cardboard Boat Regatta, held May 1st at Hurricane Harbor in Arlington. Watch the action and learn more about the event in our video below:

River Legacy Mascot, Forest the Squirrel

“Forest the Squirrel” greeted hundreds of kids and parents to the North Texas water park, who came to compete in these one-of-a-kind cardboard boat races. The annual event was organized by River Legacy Foundation, with the support of Arlington Parks and Recreation Department. There were many colorful and cool designs, big and small boats, fast and slow, and even a few sinkers. During the event, contestants were interviewed by Jay Ryan, and the races were announced by Barry Sanders.

The VIBE sends a big Thanks to River Legacy’s Kristi Payne, Diana Marquis, and volunteer coordinator, Alma Pohler for inviting us.

Great video! It beautifully conveys the wonderful fun factor of Regatta. The math and science learning components of building a cardboard boat are just icing on the cake! No wonder teachers love it so much. Pencil it in on your calendars for the first Saturday in May 2011. You’ll be glad you did.
    BIG, BIG Regatta FUN!!!

I didn’t know how much fun this event would be until I went and experienced it for myself. It’s very entertaining to watch the boats try to make it around the pool! Something you must experience! Love that Forest the Squirrel is back!
