It’s always a great day for a baseball game in Arlington, but this year the Texas Rangers presented an even better day for baseball — not just for man, but also man’s best friend.

This video was done at last year’ s “Dog Day at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington”  on July 25, 2010. Rangers fans, even the four-legged variety, came to cheer on their team as the club battled the Angels. The evening’s activities began with a pre-game dog parade, and prizes were given out to the top-dressed pooches!

The VIBE thanks our bud, Cole Wade, who talked with the fans and their furry friends that night. We also send a big Thank You to the Texas Rangers, for letting us film Dog Day at Rangers Ballpark!

Since 1994, Dance Theatre of Arlington’s I AM! program has given elementary school students the opportunity to interact with arts professionals. The VIBE talked with Rebecca Boles, Persis Ann Forster, and others to learn more about it. Our video features their interview, as well as highlights from last year’s show, which took place at UTA’s Texas Hall.

This year’s show is coming up Wednesday, May 18th,   and  Thursday the 19th at Texas Hall.

Synopsis:
In this “GODSPELL” YOU are part of the show!

Take a modern journey through the last seven days of the life of Jesus Christ, based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew. Patrons who are familiar with the show will be delighted by fresh aspects planned for the production.  This GODSPELL, with Direction by Richard S. Blake, Musical Direction by Marlene Bigley and Choreography by Heather Simmons, promises to be an interactive live theatre experience like you’ve never seen before.

The design for the production will be much sleeker and streamlined than the laid back, flower-child version that hit audiences back in 1971. The audience should not expect a man in a Superman T-shirt with long hair, but instead, a man with a smart phone, with his disciples following him on Facebook. Instead of the usual pre-show admonition to “turn off your cell phone,” this audience will be urged to Facebook and tweet their comments and reactions to the show in real time and become part of the live performance!

The themes are timeless and the piece is as relevant, if not more relevant today as it was 38 years ago. GODSPELL is one of those shows that seem to inspire a populace following whenever and wherever it is performed.

 March 22, 2011—ACI Academy will host “An Evening With a Star” on Saturday, April 22 at the Arlington Music Hall, 224 N. Center Street.        

Grammy-nominated singer and 2008 Nashville Star, Melissa Lawson, will headline the event with a live concert. The evening will also include a silent auction and a Meet and Greet with the artist after the concert.  

Since winning NBC’s Nashville Star in 2008, Lawson has headlined on the popular Nashville Star Tour and taped Breakthrough with Tony Robbins. She was recently nominated for two Grammys for the recording “United We Stand.”  Her single, “What If It All Goes Right,” has been featured on various national and local radio stations.  

Melissa is dedicated to community service, including supporting the school where her children attend by performing a benefit concert. Her goal is to raise funds for the school and create awareness about ACI Academy.

Symphony Arlington presents its season finale! They will feature Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. Other selections will include Alfvén’s Midsommarvarka, Webern’s Im Sommerwind, and Vivaldi’s “Summer” from The Four Seasons.                                                        _____________________________________________________________________

The Four Seasons (Le quattro stagioni) is a set of four violin concertos by Vivaldi. Composed in 1723, The Four Seasons is Vivaldi’s best-known work, and is among the most popular pieces of  Baroque music.  The texture of each concerto is varied, each resembling its respective season. For example, “Winter” is peppered with silvery staccato notes from the high strings, calling to mind icy rain, whereas “Summer” evokes a thunderstorm in its final movement, which is why the movement is often dubbed “Storm.” – Antonio Vivaldi – “Summer (L’estate)” from The Four Seasons (Le Quattro stagioni)

The first rhapsody – Swedish Rhapsody No. 1, also known as Midsommarvarka (Midsummer Vigil) – was written in 1903 and is often simply called the “Swedish Rhapsody.” It is the best-known piece composed by Hugo Alfvén, and also one of the best-known pieces of music in Sweden. – Hugo Alfven ­ – Midsommarvarka (Mid Summer Vigil)  

Anton Webern (3 December 1883 – 15 September 1945) was an Austrian composer and conductor. He was a member of the Second Viennese School. As a student and significant follower of Arnold Schoenberg, he became one of the best-known exponents of the twelve-tone technique; in addition, his innovations regarding schematic organization of pitch, rhythm and dynamics were formative in the musical technique later known as total serialism.  - Anton Webern – Im Sommerwind (In the Summer Wind)

The Rite of Spring, original French title, Le sacre du printemps, is a 1913 ballet with music by the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, original choreography by Vaslav Nijinsky, and original set design and costumes by archaeologist and painter Nicholas Roerich, all under impresario Serge Diaghilev. The music’s innovative complex rhythmic structures, timbres, and use of dissonance have made it a seminal 20th century composition.The composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein said of one passage, “That page is sixty years old, but it’s never been topped for sophisticated handling of primitive rhythms…”, and of the work as a whole, “…it’s also got the best dissonances anyone ever thought up, and the best asymmetries and polytonalities and polyrhythms and whatever else you care to name.” – Igor Stravinsky – The Rite of Spring ___________________________________________________________________________________________
